Bone Marrow Aspiration & Biopsy

Today is the day we have been waiting on since mid December when Zeke was in the hospital.  I could feel the power of prayer around me today.  I was more calm today then I have been throughout this entire process.  Thank you for those prayers not only for Zeke, but for myself.

Zeke fell asleep before 7:30pm last night.  He must have known about today.

Zeke woke up around 6:30am.  He said "the doctor said I can't have anything to eat or drink this morning."  I'm glad he remembered.  The very first thing he does when he wakes up is to grab his cup of milk out of the refrigerator.  He had his bath and was ready to go.  We got to the hospital around 7:45am.  We checked in at the desk and he went to his seat.  By this time he was very thirsty and wanted a snack.  So he was a little upset that I wouldn't let him have anything.

At 7:52am the nurse came out to get Zeke to get his vitals.  He currently weighs 40.1 lbs and his blood pressure was 100/67.

7:54 we were sent to the play room to play.  Nurse Laura came in to say hi and see how Zeke was doing.  Zekey played with the car track the most with his Papa.

8:17am Dr. Kirkpatrick came into the playroom to say hi to Zeke.  He explained everything that was going to happen today and made sure I understood everything and to see if I had any questions.  He took Zeke into room 1 to check his ears to see if his ear infection had gone away and listen to his lungs.  Zeke wanted to be a big boy and go alone.

8:25 Dr. K and Zeke came back to the playroom.  His ears look great and his lungs sound clear.  He said we would be waiting for a little while longer.  So Zeke continued playing.

He drew a smiley face and was so proud

Making mommy a drink and snack

8:37am Nurse Laura came into the playroom with Zeke's admission paperwork.  After I finished completing it, I went to check out at the front desk before heading downstairs.  I needed to schedule an appointment for one week.  If he needs to start treatment, he will start then.  If not, then they will cancel the appointment and we will come back in a month.  Dr. K will call and explain the results to me.

8:45am I got checked out and scheduled our next appointment for February 6th at 2:30pm...on my mom's birthday.  Hopefully we won't have to come back and we can go celebrate with Nana!!  Then we headed downstairs.

8:47am We arrived at AA and checked in.

Zekey played while we waited to go back

Cuddled up to Nana and Papa

And had a little love for mommy

9:10am We were called back to room 3.

9:12am Nurse Lana came in to draw some blood for lab and get Zeke all ready for his iv.  He was very brave.  He had a lot of questions and wanted to know if he was going to get poked (a shot).  She said yes and told him it wasn't going to hurt.  She had this tube that didn't have a needle in it that she was going to put on his arm and it was going to make a sound like a rocket ship.  Well she spoke his language when she said that.  He was nervous but was trying to be brave.

9:33am Nurse Lana came in to hook up the iv.  Zeke and Georgie watched Little Einsteins

10:03am Dr. K came in to get everything started.  While he was getting everything fixed up I asked him the results of the genetic testing they did on the 13th.  One of the tests came back clear.  They are still waiting on the other test.  His platelets were at 1.3 million at the time.

10:11am Dr. Emerson came in to give him some anesthesia...as soon as it got through the iv, he was out within seconds...it was CrAzY!!!

Big yawn...

...and he's out...

10:13am We were sent to the waiting room as they began the procedure.   I couldn't sit down during this time.  I just paced around.

10:30am We were called back into the room.  The nurse said he did great!!  He was OUT cold.

10:38am Dr. K came in to let me know everything went good.  He is hoping to have results on the aspiration sometime tomorrow.  They won't be able to test the bone chip until after 24 hours once the calcium has come out of the bone.  So hopefully we will have results on that in a few days.  He wants to continue on 1/2 the baby Aspirin daily.  Depending on the results we might be back in a week or if everything goes well we will be back in a month for more blood work.

10:43am another nurse came in to let me know he can't get his band-aid wet.  This time tomorrow he can remove the band-aid and take a bath.

10:48am Nurse Lana trying to get Zeke to wake up, which he finally did and immediately said "I'm ready for my popsicle."

10:51am Nurse Lana begins unhooking Zeke from everything while he eats his popsicle.

11am We get to go home!!!!  He's still loopy but feeling good!!

Zeke couldn't walk very good without falling over so I carried him out to the car.  He was hilarious on the way home, I wish I would have recorded him.  Everything he wanted to say, he sang.  It was really funny!!  When we got home he showed me his band-aid.

He doesn't seem to have any memory of the procedure...but remembers before and after.  It's so strange!!  I hope we get GOOD NEWS this week.  As always, I will keep you posted as soon as I know something.  Thanks again so much for all of your prayers.  I felt them today.  I also want to thank my parents for coming with me today for the support.  Love to all!!
